Economic Development

The Economic Development Department markets Airdrie and supports business development to meet the needs of residents and create local employment opportunities. Through collaborative partnerships, the department works to build and maintain relationships with the local business community and new or potential stakeholders.

What we do

Using the City of Airdrie’s Sustainable Prosperity Economic Development Strategy as a guide, the department strives to foster economic development opportunities by undertaking the following:

Marketing

• Market the City of Airdrie regionally, provincially, and nationally.
• Provide tourism services promoting Airdrie as a destination location for special events.
• Provide accurate and accessible information about Airdrie and the region to support business attraction and development.
• Promote the City of Airdrie to draw investment to the City.

Business Development

• Provide support services to community organizations through participation on committees where the activities are related to economic development.
• Network with public and private stakeholders to identify new business development services.
• Provide information and support to all newly licensed businesses in Airdrie.
• Support business retention and expansion.

Research and Information Services

• Undertake research to support economic development planning and market research.
• Publish market research information to support investment attraction and business development.
• Maintain collaborative relationships with the private sector and regional and provincial partners, identifying areas of cross-promotion, sharing information, and leveraging resources.
